Best of Sydney Food Blogs: DIY Edible Christmas Gifts

This is why I love food blogs. So much talent and so many good ideas, all accessible with just a few clicks. With Christmas just around the corner (it doesn’t need to be said, I know) I decided to trawl through some of my favourite Sydney food blogs for Christmas baking/making inspiration. One thing, in my food-oriented opinion, that makes Christmas extra special is the food. Nothing says I love you (in one capacity or another) more than a homemade, edible gift.

So, I’ve compiled a list of the best DIY edible gift ideas from my fellow Sydney food bloggers. Here are some awesome ideas and fantastic inspiration if you’re planning on making your own scrumptious gifts to hand out this Christmas.

Gingerbread Men

Gingerbread is a Christmas staple. Sweet and spicy and oh-so-tasty. And, generally, super cute too. What’s great about Gingerbread Men is you can put your own twist on them and make them look however you like. They’re easy to package up (cellophane bags, little boxes, the list goes on) and transport fairly well.

Try these super cute and super easy ones from Chocolate Suze.

Truffles

Another Christmas classic are truffles. There are so many different variations, you’re bound to have a lot of fun making them and coming up with a flavour combination your friends and family will love. Some truffles I can’t wait to try include these amazing-looking Salted Caramel Truffles by Citrus and Candy:

And these Hazelnut Truffles from KatCakes, which also look incredible:

Hazelnut Biscotti

Speaking of hazelnut, hazelnut biscotti is another sweet treat that makes a perfect homemade, edible Christmas gift. Here’s a fantastic recipe from Corridor Kitchen which is making my mouth water.

Rocky Road

Another tasty classic. Rocky Road is something you can put your own twist on. As long as the core ingredient (i.e. chocolate) is there, you can add anything else you want to make your own version of Rocky Road. It’s also an easy thing to package up and give as a gift. You could wrap it in cellophane bags with a festive ribbon, or wrap it up in little cardboard boxes. Or, you could do as my work friend did one year, and fill a cup or mug with Rocky Road and give two gifts in one.

Here is a scrumptious recipe from Go Bake Yourself.

Mulled Wine Syrup

For something a little bit different, here’s a recipe for Mulled Wine Syrup from Spicyicecream. This looks so cute presented in a jar with red and white string and is definitely a unique gift, something your friends and family probably won’t already be receiving this year. The Mulled Wine Marshmallows in this post look incredible too.

Pastillas de Leche

For something else a bit different, these Pastillas de Leche by Sugarlace look amazing. Admittedly, I hadn’t heard of Pastillas de Leche before seeing them on Sugarlace, but now that I have I can’t WAIT to try them. If you’re wondering (like I was) what they are, Pastillas de Leche are sweet and soft milk lollies traditionally from the Philippines, I believe. In addition to looking so delicious, they also look so awesome wrapped up in red and green cellophane.

Peanut Butter Cookies

You can’t go wrong with a delicious, homemade cookie. Step away from your usual chocolate chip and try these Peanut Butter Cookies from The Sticky and the Sweet instead. Give them as gifts or leave some out for Santa!

So there you have it. So many delicious looking treats – enough to keep us all busy for a while!

Are you planning on giving homemade edible gifts this Christmas? I’d love to hear your plans!
